Which documents are required?

In 90% of cases, to have your wedding in Georgia as a citizen of Kazakhstan, only one document is needed – your passport. However, there are nuances if either partner has been married before. In such cases, the following additional documents are required:

• The original divorce certificate.
• A death certificate (if a spouse has passed away).

Starting January 1, 2026, foreign citizens entering Georgia will need medical insurance valid for the entire period of stay. The policy must cover basic medical expenses and accidents, and it may be checked at the border. Without insurance, entry may be denied, so it is important to arrange it in advance.

Translations and notarization

All documents issued outside of Sakartvelo must be legalized. This means they need to be translated into Georgian and notarized. Technically, you can have translations done in Kazakhstan, but we strongly recommend doing this in Georgia. Translators in other countries often make mistakes when transliterating names into the Georgian alphabet. Even one incorrect letter can result in the Justice House rejecting the documents, and the process would have to start over.

How the registration process works

1. Submitting the application. With the prepared translations, you go to the Justice House.
2. Choosing a date. The registration can be scheduled either on the day of submission or on any date you choose (depending on the office’s availability).
3. The ceremony. At the appointed time, you confirm your consent and sign the documents.
4. Witnesses. By law, two witnesses must be present.
